Kenyan police have confirmed receiving a warrant of
arrest for the fugitive former President, Rupiah Banda’s son, Henry.
They have since joined in the hunt for the former head of
state’s son.
This follows the issuance of an international warrant of
arrest by Zambia Police Inspector-General, Martin Malama.
Henry, who is believed to have fled to Kenya but was
earlier spotted in South Africa, is wanted for his alleged connection to the
investigations into his father’s 2011 elections campaign funds.
The former immediate former president is believed to have
bankrolled his campaigns using allegedly fraudulent resources, organised by his
sons.
Senior officers at Criminal Investigations Department of
the Kenyan police headquarters in Nairobi have confirmed receiving copies of
the warrants from Interpol.
And Dr Malama says he has since made fresh arrangements
to have Henry deported because he had left the jurisdiction of the SADC region
for East Africa.
While in South Africa, Henry was being hunted with
assistance from Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation and
Interpol.
And in a turn of events, the former President has
described the Zambian police action with respect to his son as silly.
Mr Banda says the police’s issuance of an international
warrant of arrest as an act of persecution.
