International Zambia –TIZ- has challenged the Patriotic Front government not to
mess up the anti-corruption crusade embarked on by President Michael Sata.
TIZ
Executive Director, Goodwell Lungu says the Mr Sata’s current invigorated
anti-graft crusade is a clear opportunity and mandate given by the Zambian
people to protect public resources.
Mr
Lungu therefore says it is appalling that there are some calls by former MMD government
officials to win public sympathy and divert public attention that they are
being persecuted over their own conduct.
He
has stated that some ministers in the former regime deliberately involved
themselves in corruption at the detriment of observing and abiding by the rule
of law, acts which former President rupiah Banda condoned.
Mr
Lungu has added that TIZ wants to place it on record that it is the former
ministers’ own conduct and past behaviour, which may today be catching up with
them.
He
has further said that while TIZ does not take kindly to actual malicious
persecution, the call is on on former leaders to cooperate with the law
enforcement agencies and clear their names if they have nothing to hide.
