ZAMBIA SNUBS AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL OVER PRESIDENT BUSH

Zambian President, Michael Sata has dismissed Amnesty International’s call for the arrest of former US President George Bush.
The international human rights group had formally written and asked Zambia, among Tanzania and Ethiopia to arrest Mr Bush during his visit to the respective countries.
But President Sata has stated today that government was not availed with facts which would warrant the arrest of Mr Bush.
This is despite Amnesty International’s acclaimed formal request to the respective countries for the arrest of the US’ 43rd President.
Mr Sata said this when he saw off President Bush, who had been visiting the country.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs minister, Chishimba Kambwili has reiterated Mr Sata’s stance.
Mr Kambwili has also dismissed Amnesty International’s call for the arrest on torture charges, questioning what basis of the international rights body’s request.
He has further said that Zambia would have considered the request only if it had come from the International Criminal Court acting on behalf of international organizations like the United Nations.
