At least 1.3 million Euros will be spent in the electrification
of some parts of Central and Northern provinces.
This is in a contract involving SWECO, an international consulting engineering company of Sweden.
The Swedish company will
improve access to electricity in works contracted by ZESCO under World Bank
financing.
This is against the background
of widespread lack of access
to electricity in the respective provinces, a problem which creates social and
economic obstacles for progress.
In details of the project,
SWECO will supervise and control the existing power distribution network as
they expand and reinforce it for the benefit of at least 260,000 people.
In recent years, SWECO has been hired for a number of
similar assignments in countries like Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and
Tanzania.
