Zambia recorded an increased productivity
output of 5 per cent for the first and second quarters of 2011.
This is according to the Central Statistical
Office Index of Industrial Production for the mining, manufacturing and
electricity economic sectors.
The noted growth is however on account of
increased activity in the electricity and manufacturing sectors.
The electricity sector grew by 11.3 per cent,
with 5.9 million KWh units of power generated, up from 5.3 million KWh units
for the previous corresponding period.
The manufacturing sector, on the other hand,
recorded a 7.1 per cent growth.
Other sectors, which contributed to the
industrial index production growth are copper production, which recorded
371,582 metric tonnes, up from 362,823 tonnes.
Mining and quarrying
also grew by 2.2 per cent in the first half of 2011.
