The Zambian government will
make public the report of the findings of the commission of inquiry into the
alleged illegal and illegitimate sale of ZAMTEL.
The telecom firm was sold to
LAP GREEN Network of Libya at a cost of 257 million dollars, which acquired a
75 per cent stake.
However, amid strong public
outcry on the estimated value as well as the transaction process, an inquiry
was initiated by the new Patriotic Front government.
The outcome has since
implicated some former ministers in the Rupiah Banda regime, further outlining
glaring and outrageous irregularities over the sale.
The commission ofg inquiry’s
report has since recommended the reversal of the transaction, a decision LAP
GREEN claims it is keen to see through to the end.
And now, President Michael
Sata has directed Justice minister, Sebastian Zulu to release the ZAMTEL report
to the public.
Mr Sata says this will protect
protect public interest and also curb public speculation.
Mr Zulu has also been directed
to arrange for the release of the report even to the outside world and most
important of all, the Libyan government.
In a statement released by Special
Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah, the president has
further assured that financial resources are readily available to facilitate
the exercise.
