ZAMBIA INFLATIONARY PRESSURE CONTINUES TO LOWER

Zambia's inflation now stands at 6.4 percent for the beginning of 2012.
This is in the backdrop of inflationary pressure cited at 7.2 per cent at year-end of 2011.
The Central Statistical office has attributed the new inflation rate to a paradox of price increments for both food and non-food items.
Meanwhile, the CSO says it has revised the method of compiling the consumer price index, with varied parameters.
The CPI methodology will include a revised basket of goods for the survey, their reclassification in accordance with international guidelines as mirrored against living conditions monitoring survey outcome.
And the CSO has disclosed that Zambia recorded a trade surplus for the month of December 2012.
However the surplus was a nominal decrease from 194 billion kwacha for November, down to 132 billion kwacha for the year-end month.
