High Court Judge,
Patrick Matibini has ben elected Speaker of National Assembly.
Dr Matibini
narrowly beat his only rival Richard Kapita of the UPND to become Zambia’s 7th
Speaker of National Assembly.
And the new Deputy
Speaker of National Assembly is Lundazi Member of Parliament, Mkhondo Lungu
while his colleague for Chasefu, Chifumu Banda is the new Deputy Chairman for
Parliamentary committees.
Meanwhile,
President Michael Sata has urged the trio to ensure impartiality in their work.
And the Law Association of Zambia –LAZ- has expressed happiness at the election
of Dr Matibini as Speaker of National Assembly.
Dr Matibini, who was high court Judge prior to his election, was also honorary
secretary for LAZ.
LAZ President, Musa Mwenye has said the association has no doubt that Dr Matibini
will contribute immensely to the growth of democracy.
Meanwhile, Members of
Parliament today took oath of office before the new Speaker of National
Assembly, Patrick Matibini.
The MPs have since pledged
allegiance to the republican President and to preserve, protect and defend the
constitution of Zambia.
The swearing ceremony
started at 13 hours and it was led by Dr Matibini.
Meanwhile, there was jubilation
in the house when former Vice President, George Kunda, who is Muchinga MMD MP,
took oath of office and pledged allegiance to the President.
Mr Kunda was one of the
critics of President Michael Sata when the later was in the opposition.
