ZAMBIAN MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT VOTE FOR 7TH SPEAKER OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Members of Parliament are tomorrow set to vote the 7th Speaker of the 11th National Assembly.
The new speaker will replace Amussa Mwanamwambwa, who retired prior to the dissolution of the 10th National Assembly just before the general elections.
UPND National Youth Coordinator, Brian Hapunda says his party, in consultation with other opposition parties, has proposed Richard Kapita for the position of speaker.
The ruling Patriotic Front has however proposed high court Judge, Patrick Matibini for the position of speaker.
However, both the opposition and the PF have settled for Lundazi Member of Parliament, Mkhondo Lungu for the position of Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, the opposition MMD and UPND, last evening, held a closed door caucus meeting over the election of the speaker.
MMD Trustee, George Kunda led the MMD delegation, while UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema led his party’s delegation.
Among those who attended the meeting held at Chrismar hotel were the UPND’s proposed candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Richard Kapita and Mkhondo Lungu.
Others were former Ministers, Ronnie Shikapwasha, Dora Siliya, Moses Muteteka, Kabinga Pande, Michael Kaingu, Elijah Muchima, all who have retained their parliamentary seats.
