ERB APPROVES HIKED ELECTRICITY TARIFFS FOR THE MINES

The Energy Regulation Board –ERB- has approved a 30 percent increase in ZESCO’s bulk supply tariffs to Copperbelt Energy Corporation.
The new increased tariffs, backdated to 1st January 2011, follow negotiations between ZESCO and CEC.
ERB Communications Officer, Kwali Mfuni says the new rates are in line with the on-going tariff review of all customer categories.
Ms Mfuni says the ERB’s cost of service study, concluded in 2006, revealed that tariffs for all customer categories are not viable commercially.
The last time, the bulk supply electricity tariffs were increased was in 2008 by 35 per cent.
