US GOVERNMENT EXPLAINS ITS ZAMBIA TRAVEL ALERT FOR ITS CITIZENS

The US government has clarified the travel alert issued to its citizens explain that it is not meant to prevent them from traveling to Zambia.
US Embassy Acting Public Affairs Officer, Marissa Rollens says the alert is standard procedure for her government.
She has said in a statement that the alerts are meant to bring major events to the attention of US citizens.
Ms Rollens says the alerts apply to those who may be traveling or living overseas.
Last week, the US state department advised American citizens intending to travel to Zambia.
The department warned of possible civil strife in the advent of the 20th September 2011 general elections.
This came amid reports of political violence among the parties as well as the violent harassment of media practitioners.
