EX-ZAMBIAN MINISTERS IN VEHICLES BONANZA

Former ministers in President Rupiah Banda’s government will not return their ministerial vehicles after the dissolution of cabinet.
Mr Banda dissolved cabinet and parliament in order to pave way for the 20th September general elections.
And the Ministry of Works and Supply has disclosed that the former ministers will however not return the government vehicles they were driving.
The Ministry’s permanent Secretary, Watson Ng’ambi has disclosed in Lusaka that all ministers and their deputies will buy the vehicles at only 25 per cent of the book value of the vehicles.
At nominal rates, the respective vehicles sale for at least 100,000 dollars, which in the Zambian currency is about 495 million kwacha.
However, President Banda’s former ministers will have these luxury vehicles at only 25,000 dollars, which in kwacha equivalent is only 120 million kwacha or even less.
