Former Botswana President, Ketumile Masire has noted the increase in irresponsible and defamatory statements by politicians during campaigns.
Mr Masire is in the country leading a National Democratic Institute delegation on a pre-election assessment ahead of the 20th September 2011 polls.
Presenting the findings of his group today in Lusaka, Mr Masire explained that irresponsible and defamatory statements have potential to bring misunderstandings.
He added that in the last 7 days, his team has observed that there are some civil society organisations being discredited by authorities despite their non-partisan nature.
