ZUMA TAKES OVER FROM RUPIAH BANDA AT SADC LEVEL

The position of chairman of the SADC organ on politics, defence and security troika has moved from President Rupiah Banda to Jacob Zuma of South Africa.
The election of Mr Zuma took place when Southern African leaders met Wednesday for a two-day summit in Angola.
President Banda was represented by Vice-President, George Kunda.
In a statement, Mr Zuma said his country was honoured to lead the Southern African Development Community troika and would build on the good work done by the previous chair, Zambia.
Mr Zuma has stated that SADC is going to continue taking critical steps of creating conditions for peace, stability and good neighbourliness, as a prerequisite for regional economic integration.
He has since said that the regional body will continue to render whatever assistance and support necessary to the people of Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Lesotho, as well as to support the post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
