CHURCH APPEALS FOR PEACE AND UNITY FROM POLITICIANS


The Zambia Episcopal Conference –ZEC- has appealed to politicians to remain united and calm as the electorate cast their votes tomorrow.
ZEC Spokesperson, Paul Samasumo says the church attaches great importance to the values of human rights therefore the need o avoid inciting violence.
In an interview with ZANIS, Father Samasumo has further appealed for peace among Zambians as they chose their preferred candidates tomorrow.
And in a separate interview, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia Executive Director, Pukuta Mwanza has urged politicians to refrain from issuing provocative statement tomorrow.
Reverend Mwanza has also stressed that it is imperative for political parties to observe the electoral code of conduct.
Meanwhile, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Election Observer Mission has expressed confidence that tomorrow’s elections will be peaceful.
Head of the Mission, Raphael Tuju has further urged Zambians to remain united during this period.
ZANIS reports that Mr Tuju, who is also a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Presidential Advisor in Kenya, has advised the electorate to turn up in numbers to vote.
He has also explained that the mission has deployed over 40 observers in all the nine provinces of Zambia.
