WILLIAM BANDA WARNED AND CAUTIONED AS MMD IS CITED FOR VIOLENCE

Lusaka police have recorded a warn and caution statement from MMD Lusaka Province Chairman, William Banda over the violence in Chongwe.
Lusaka Division Police Commanding Officer, Mhlakeni Zulu has confirmed the development saying this was after Mr Banda had been summoned to Lusaka Central police station.
Mr Banda arrived at Lusaka Central police station in the afternoon in the company of his lawyers, Sunday Nkonde and Hobday Kabwe.
However, Mr Banda’s lawyers instead told the media that the police did not record a warn and caution statement but that Mr Banda was only interviewed.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission has cited the MMD for having perpetuated the recent violence in Chongwe, in which a number of people were brutally assaulted.
The Commission says its investigations have revealed that MMD cadres from Lusaka were allegedly ferried to Chongwe to propagate violence.
Commission Director, Enoch Mulembe has identified one mini-bus, registration number ABK 405, which was used to ferry the cadres.
This is contained in the commission’s letter dated 8th September 2011 and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police.
The letter is also copied to the Secretary to Cabinet, Joshua Kanganja, and the permanent secretary’s office in the Ministry of home affairs.
And from Livingstone, the police have cautioned and warned Patriotic Front member, Paul Sensele.
Mr Sensele is alleged to have tried to block President Rupiah Banda’s motorcade during his recent visit to Livingstone.
The incident happened when the Presidential motorcade was about to join Mosi-oa-tunya road from the airport.
Mr Sensele is alleged to have been seen standing beside the road, playing a PF song loudly as his party cadres chanted slogans.
