The Lusaka high court has ruled that the
Electoral Commission of Zambia must prepare adequately for persons living with
disabilities in the 2016 general elections.
This is in a case, in which, Zambia Federation
of Disability Organisation had petitioned the ECZ for not considering their
needs in the preparations for this year’s polls.
Judge Nigel Mutuna today ruled that the
elections body must ensure equal participation of the electorate in the 2016
elections.
He also observed that the rights of the
disabled have been violated adding that this requires immediate remedial
action.
