MMD CADRES ASSAULT JOURNALISTS

Suspected MMD cadres have assaulted another Muvi TV news crew in Kaunda Square township in Lusaka.
The news crew was harassed when they went to the area to investigate reports of political violence in the area.
The incident happened when the news crew arrived at Munali police post, which they found had been besieged by the MMD cadres.
The irate MMD cadres blocked the news crew from filming the assaulted PF cadres, who had gone to the Police post to report the matter.
The MMD cadres later started banging the Muvi TV vehicle prompting the journalists to leave to avoid getting lynched.
This is the second time a Muvi TV crew is being harassed by MMD cadres with the first being in Lusaka west in June this year.
Meanwhile, 2 opposition Patriotic Front cadres, who were brutally assaulted by MMD cadres in Kaunda Square Stage 2 have been discharged from the Lusaka General Hospital.
The PF cadres were assaulted yesterday while they were having a meeting to strategise on campaigns.
One of the cadres suffered a deep cut on his forehead while another has deep knife cuts on both his left and right hands.
And Patriotic Front Munali parliamentary candidate Nkandu Luo has condemned the violence against her cadres.
And in Chawama, a Patriotic Front cadre was today beaten with an iron bar by rival political party cadres.
21-year-old Chilufya Kunda says the incident happened in the morning when he attempted to display his party Chitenge materials outside his shop.
The incident has been confirmed by Chawama Constituency PF Campaign Manager, Bright Nundwe.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Police Commander, Mlakeni Zulu confirmed the arrest of Mr Kunda’s assailants, who he named as Chawama MMD Youth Chairperson, Nathan Phiri.
