ZCID DISAPPOINTED WITH ELECTION CAMPAIGNS

The Zambia Centre for Inter-Party Dialogue –ZCID- is disappointed with the non-normative approach in the elections campaigns.
ZCID Board Chairperson, Winston Chibwe says it is unfortunate that the campaigns are not highlighting issues affecting the electorate.
Mr Chibwe, who is also UPND Secretary General, has noted that the campaigns have become an instrument for harassing, humiliating, demonising and intimidating opponents.
He was speaking today when he launched the code of ethics for political parties in Lusaka.
The Zambia Police service has threatened to deal with political cadres perpetrating electoral violence.
Lusaka Province Commander, Mhlakeni Zulu says Zambian laws do not recognise cadres, therefore those propagating violence will be treated as criminals.
He says it is the duty of police officers to arrest everybody who offends others and also to protect the people whose rights have been trampled upon.
Mr Zulu was speaking in the backdrop of some Chongwe residents, who were allegedly assaulted by some MMD cadres over the weekend.
