A recent survey has revealed the
possibility of post-election violence in Lusaka and Western provinces.
The survey, done by SYNOVATE, was
commissioned by the Southern African Centre for Reconstructive Resolution of
Disputes –SACCORD.
At least 1,683 people were interviewed
during the survey with a plus or minus 2.2 margin of error at 95 per cent.
Apart from revealing that 82 per cent of
Zambians are against violence, the study also indicted the law enforcement
agencies’ laxity in addressing issues of violence.
And SACCORD Executive Director, Lee
Habasonda has cited intolerance as one of the reasons for political violence.
Meanwhile, Transparency International
Zambia has urged the electorate to turn up in numbers in Tuesday’s general
elections.
TIZ President, Reuben Likufa says each
and every vote will help shape the destiny of the country for the next 5 years.
Mr Lifuka has said a high voter turnout
will help voters make their decision known through the ballot box.
Zambians go to the polls on Tuesday to elect the
republican president, members of parliamentary as well as councilors.
